Chemical Skin Peel Treatment in New Jersey | Anara Medspa

A chemical peel applies a customized solution to exfoliate the outer skin in a controlled way — revealing smoother, clearer, more even skin underneath and improving acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and dullness. At Anara Medspa, peels are selected and guided by Dr. Ram Chandra, MD, who matches the formulation and depth to your skin type and goal. Modern peels favor customized blends over single-acid formulas for better results with manageable downtime.

What concerns do chemical peels address?

Peels are excellent for hyperpigmentation and melasma, acne and acne-related marks, uneven tone and rough texture, fine lines, and dullness. The right peel depends on your concern and your skin tone — which is why physician guidance matters, especially for darker skin, where the wrong peel can trigger post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Which peel is best for me?

There’s no single “best” peel — only the best peel for your skin. For example, a brightening peel may suit early sun damage, while melasma often calls for a dedicated pigment program like Cosmelan, and acne-prone skin may do best with a lighter, repeatable peel. Dr. Chandra recommends the formulation, strength, and series that fit your goals.

What’s the downtime?

It depends on the peel’s depth. Lighter peels may cause only mild flaking for a few days, or none at all, while medium peels involve more visible peeling over roughly a week. We’ll tell you exactly what to expect and how to care for your skin so it heals well — and we’ll often recommend a short series for the best result.

Frequently asked questions

Which chemical peel is best for hyperpigmentation or melasma?

It depends on your skin. A series of VI Peel or Perfect Derma peels works well for melasma; stubborn melasma often responds best to a dedicated program such as the Cosmelan peel, while general sun-related pigment may improve with a VI Peel or Perfect Derma Peel. Dr. Chandra selects the safest option for your skin tone.

How long is the peeling and downtime after a chemical peel?

Lighter peels may cause only mild flaking for a few days, while medium-depth peels involve more noticeable peeling over about a week. We give you specific aftercare so your skin heals smoothly and evenly.

Are chemical peels safe for darker skin tones?

Yes, with the right peel and physician oversight. Darker skin needs careful peel selection to avoid post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is why we customize the formulation and strength and may start conservatively. Sometimes we also pre-treat with prescription topicals to calm the melanocytes before a medical-strength peel.

Do chemical peels help acne?

Yes. Certain peels help clear pores, reduce breakouts, and fade post-acne marks over a series of treatments. We’ll choose a peel suited to acne-prone skin and your tolerance, sometimes alongside other acne care.

How many chemical peels will I need?

Many concerns improve most with a short series of peels rather than a single treatment, with maintenance afterward. The number depends on your concern, the intensity of the problem, and the peel selected, which Dr. Chandra and our clinical aestheticians confirm for you.

Who chooses and performs my peel?

Your peel is selected and guided by Dr. Ram Chandra, MD, a physician with 18+ years of experience across all skin types. Physician guidance is the key safety factor in peel depth and formulation — especially for melasma and darker skin. Our trained clinical aestheticians work closely with the physician and execute the plan as a team.

What should I do to prepare for a chemical peel?

Avoid sun and tanning beforehand, pause retinoids or acne medications if instructed, and tell us your full skincare routine and history. We provide pre- and post-peel instructions tailored to the specific peel and your skin.

How much does a chemical peel cost, and do you offer financing?

Cost varies by the type and depth of peel and whether a series is recommended, quoted at your consultation. We offer Cherry, CareCredit, and in-house payment plans, and you can ask about peel packages or promotions.

Chemical peel or microneedling — which is better for acne scars and texture?

Peels resurface the outer layers and excel at tone, pigment, and mild texture; microneedling and RF microneedling remodel deeper collagen and are better suited to atrophic acne scars and firmness. They’re often sequenced together, and Dr. Chandra matches the approach — and the order — to your skin and scar type.
