Medical Weight Management in East Brunswick, NJÂ
Medical weight management is a physician-supervised program that combines a full health evaluation, lab testing, nutrition, exercise guidance, and — when appropriate — FDA-approved medications such as GLP-1 therapies, to produce safe, sustainable weight loss rather than crash dieting. At Anara Medspa, the program is directed by Dr. Ram Chandra, MD, and built around your biology and medical history, not a one-size-fits-all plan. We’ve served East Brunswick and Central New Jersey since 2007.Â
How is this different from a fad diet or an app?Â
Excess weight affects energy, joints, and cardiovascular and metabolic health — so we treat it medically. Every plan begins with a head-to-toe physical exam and a face-to-face consultation, followed by relevant lab work (fasting glucose and A1C, lipid panel, thyroid, liver and kidney function, inflammatory markers, and key nutrients such as vitamin D, B12, and iron, among others). Those results guide every decision that follows, which is something an online or app-only program simply cannot do.Â

How does GLP-1 therapy (like semaglutide) work for weight loss?Â
GLP-1 medications work with your body’s natural satiety hormones: they slow gastric emptying so you feel full longer and signal the brain that you’ve eaten enough, supporting steady, maintainable fat loss. In pivotal peer-reviewed trials published in the New England Journal of Medicine, semaglutide (STEP 1, 2021) produced roughly 15% average body-weight reduction and tirzepatide (SURMOUNT-1, 2022) roughly 21% over about 68–72 weeks, though real-world results vary with dose, nutrition, and consistency. At Anara Medspa, GLP-1 therapy is used only when appropriate, after a physician risk-benefit assessment, and is monitored throughout. We also offer an injection-free, physician-guided weight-management program with THINNR. Beyond specific peptides, other prescription medications can also support weight management.

What does the full program include?Â
Beyond medication when indicated, your plan can include doctor-vetted supplements matched to your labs, a personalized nutrition plan (ample lean protein, low-glycemic carbs, smart fats, and plenty of vegetables — no starvation diets), progressive exercise programming, and lifestyle coaching for stress, sleep, and long-term maintenance, with regular check-ins to keep you accountable. Our program is a complement to — not a replacement for — your primary care physician, endocrinologist, or bariatric surgeon.
Is it safe — and who isn’t a candidate?Â
Safety comes first. Certain conditions call for a different approach, including pregnancy or nursing, active pancreatitis, a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia, and some other conditions — which is exactly why a physician evaluation is required before any medication. For some individuals, weight-loss (bariatric) surgery may be a better starting point. Rapid weight loss can also loosen skin, so we pace the program and can offer optional skin-tightening treatments if needed (these are not included in the program).Â

Frequently asked questionsÂ
What is medical weight management at Anara Medspa?
It’s a physician-supervised program combining a full health evaluation, lab testing, personalized nutrition and exercise, lifestyle coaching, and FDA-approved medications when appropriate — designed for safe, sustainable results under Dr. Ram Chandra’s oversight, serving East Brunswick since 2007.Â
How does semaglutide (a GLP-1 medication) work for weight loss?
GLP-1 medications enhance your natural satiety hormones, slowing how quickly your stomach empties and signaling fullness to the brain. This helps reduce appetite and supports steady, maintainable weight loss when combined with nutrition and exercise.Â
What’s the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Both are injectable medications that support appetite control and weight loss, but they act on different gut-hormone pathways and may differ in dosing and response. Some of these medications are also available in oral or sublingual forms for patients who prefer to avoid injections. Dr. Chandra determines which option, if any, fits your health profile after labs and an exam.Â
Do you offer an injection-free or non-GLP-1 weight-loss option?
Yes. Our THINNR program is an injection-free, physician-guided, six-week plan combining a structured low-glycemic, anti-inflammatory nutrition protocol with app support, beginning with a consultation and baseline labs. It’s a good fit for patients who prefer to avoid injections.Â
Is medically supervised weight loss safe?
When supervised by a physician, yes. A full exam and lab work identify any conditions that require a different approach, and medications are prescribed only after a risk-benefit assessment and monitored throughout your program.Â
Who is a candidate for GLP-1 weight loss medication?
Candidacy depends on your health history and goals. Some conditions — such as pregnancy, certain thyroid cancers, or active pancreatitis — call for alternatives. Dr. Chandra determines whether GLP-1 therapy is appropriate after a thorough evaluation.Â
What does a medical weight-loss program include besides medication?
It can include doctor-vetted supplements based on your labs, a personalized non-starvation nutrition plan, progressive exercise programming, and lifestyle coaching for stress and sleep, plus regular check-ins to support long-term success.Â
Will I regain the weight after the program, and do you offer financing?
The program is built for durability — it emphasizes habits, nutrition, and maintenance check-ins so results last beyond the initial phase. If you lose weight but don’t change your eating and lifestyle habits, the weight tends to return once the medication is stopped.Â
How much weight can you lose on semaglutide versus tirzepatide?
In New England Journal of Medicine trials, semaglutide (STEP 1) produced about 15% average body-weight loss and tirzepatide (SURMOUNT-1) about 21% over roughly 68–72 weeks; a 2025 head-to-head trial (SURMOUNT-5) favored tirzepatide (20.2% vs 13.7%). Individual results vary, and Dr. Chandra determines which option, if any, fits your health after labs and an exam.Â
